PSHE

Rationale

We believe that Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE) is an important and necessary part of our pupils’ education and essential for their emotional well-being and growth. Through specific PSHE sessions and woven throughout our topic work, pupils are taught how to become healthy, independent and responsible members of society and we hope to empower them to take a proactive role in their own lives and the life of their community.

Our aim is to equip children with the knowledge and skill that will enable them to grow and become independent, confident and active learners and citizens.

Normally included as part of topic work; it includes aspects of Health Education (including sex education and drugs education) We also actively teach PHSE through a variety of activities such as : Philosophy sessions in KS2, assemblies, group discussions and the use of our school council. We follow the DARE programme in year 6 and sex education is taught formally in years 5 and 6. PHSE work also includes work on relationships with others and appreciation of cultures, values and beliefs other than our own.
