Welcome to EYFS at Tollerton Primary School
As EYFS Lead, I am proud to welcome you to our Reception class at Tollerton Primary School. We believe that every child is a unique individual with limitless potential, and we are committed to providing a happy, nurturing and ambitious start to their learning journey. Through strong relationships, high-quality teaching and a carefully planned environment, we support children to become confident, curious and independent learners who love coming to school each day.
Our EYFS curriculum is built around the understanding that children learn best through a balance of play, exploration and purposeful teaching. We provide exciting opportunities for children to investigate, create, problem-solve and develop their communication skills, while building secure foundations in reading, writing and mathematics. Oracy, storytelling and a love of books sit at the heart of our provision, helping children to become confident communicators and enthusiastic learners.
We place great importance on working in partnership with families, recognising that parents and carers are children’s first educators. By building positive relationships and maintaining open communication, we work together to ensure every child feels safe, valued and supported. Our Reception class is very much the beginning of a child’s journey through the Tollerton Primary School family, preparing them not only for Year 1 but for lifelong learning.
Every child is a unique and special child, and each child’s needs are equally important. We are committed to providing an inclusive environment where all children are treated with fairness and respect, regardless of ethnicity, religion, culture, family background, disability, special educational needs, gender or home language. Children learn about the things that make us the same, the things that make us different, and are encouraged to celebrate diversity and show understanding towards others. We strive to develop a positive sense of self-worth in every child so they feel valued as members of our class, our school and the wider community. Throughout their time in EYFS, children learn to understand and follow our three core school values: Kindness, Respect and Ambition.
