Stone Age studies at Brackenhurst!
We started our first year in Key Stage 2 with a visit to Brackenhurst Environmental Centre where we learned about life in the Stone Age. We completed hands-on activities to experience life as the Neanderthals would have done. We made our group shelter in which we had our lunch, tribal necklets, learned to weave fencing with willow, made a model of Stonehenge, painted using natural materials and mud and made faces from clay to ward off evil spirits. It was a great day out!
Looking after our environment at our allotments!
We are involved in the school allotment and love to see how nature changes from season to season. We have picked some crops and in these photos we have made "bulb lasagne" by planting different bulbs at different depths in the pots and then adding winter bedding plants to add colour.
Textiles to commemorate Armistice Day.
In History, we discussed the importance of Armistice Day and the significance of poppies. We made our own poppy to wear and followed instructions on the way. We cut around a paper pattern, learned to thread a needle and sewed a button on through felt fabric. We used a safety pin to pin it to our jumpers and wore them on the 11th November. Thanks to the parents who helped us!
